Hi. I’m Jeremy. I’m a web nerd.
And you’ll love me.
I write. I code. And make a mean martini.

Say hello.

On the Cusp of Something New

If you’ve been following my blog, Twitter, Facebook or just know me in person, you’ve probably heard rumblings of a project I’ve been working on: foto:blip

foto:blip is a photo-based microblog. What the heck is that, you might ask? Well, combine Flickr and Twitter, and that’s what you get.

foto:blip is designed for those of us who use our mobile devices or cameras to capture the events of the day. The images are small and the captions are limited. Blips are designed to be quick and to share the moment with your followers and friends.

Some features include:
Connections- add users to your connections and all of their posts show up on your homepage when you log in

Facebook sharing- any public post on foto:blip can be shared to your Facebook profile, allowing all your Facebook friends to see and comment on your post

Twitter integration- save your Twitter account information and your blips can be automatically posted to Twitter

Browser-based foto:booth- this is cool for all users who have built in webcams. Use the
Flash-based foto:booth to take a quick picture without uploading any files

More.. you’ll have to check it out to see.

Well, primetime is almost here. The site is about 95 percent complete, and I’d like to open it up to a few more people to test it out and get some feedback. Please feel free to visit the pre-release version of the site at: http://staging.fotoblip.com and sign up for an account.

Any feedback, questions or problems you have, send them on over to help (at) fotoblip.com

Twollow and CodeIgniter

Have you twied Twollow yet? I’m excited about this service, but I await further developments and refinements that’ll make it even better.

My experience so far has been pretty cool. For about a week I added CodeIgniter as a keyword, amongst some other nerdy web keywords. My Twitter account pretty much immediately started getting flooded with new followees.

It was exciting to see the number of CodeIgniter users out there, that I can now connect with. At the same time, the mass add-age of people was a bit overwhelming, and I eventually conceeded to remove many of the keywords from my Twollow settings.

It seems now they’ve added some new features, which I have yet to twy out, but, I hope that being able to monitor the Twittersphere for keywords will become more fun and useful without auto-follow activated.

de-friending

Saw this article on Mashable from yesterday and had to repost a portion and the link.. definitely a good read. I’m always interested in the effects of social networking on offline life, and this is an interesting presentation of one aspect of that collision of two worlds.

My favorite scenario from the article on social network de-friending stories:

9. Don’t use my personal life as leverage in business negotiations

Doug Cone works hard and plays hard. After getting a little behind on a project, Doug’s colleague took advantage of their social networking friendship at work by using Doug’s posted Facebook photos of his weekend rafting adventures. In team meetings, his jealous colleague would complain, “…and you are sending pictures having fun in rivers with a bunch of girls.” Now de-friended, the colleague doesn’t seem so distracted by Doug’s weekend adventures.

Death on the Interw3bz

I just saw this recent blog post and had to talk about it:

What Happens to Our Social Profiles After We Die?

Strangely enough, this article brings up some questions that I’ve often wondered about myself. What would happen to my various accounts if I died?

I’ve seen Facebook groups started to remember various people who have died, but never have I come across an active profile port mortem.

The blog above also makes mention of a site, which is sure to be hours of fun for my dear friend TJ, who obsesses over the deaths of people he never even knew. If you’re feeling a little bit morbid, check out MyDeathSpace. Creepy..

So all this is really morbid and a little creepy.. but it’s an interesting subject to think about, although maybe for not too long.

Continuation of Facebook is for Faces

I just saw this article posted on Mashable. It goes right along with my earlier post about Facebook usage for organizations.

Here’s a quote: “Social media platforms help facilitate conversations between individuals, not companies.”

Amen to that. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Anyway, without further ado, read this article, instead of reading about it.
